Monica Phillips
Working for the environment at Ocee Elementary School
Monica has served as the Parent Champion of Ocee Elementary for the Better Air Schools Program since the 2005-2006 academic year and is also the Environmental Education Chairperson for Ocee’s PTA. Monica’s commitment to air quality is evident in the amount of time and effort she has devoted to the cause. She coordinated a bus rider raffle to encourage bus ridership and organized a bus rider appreciation day. She’s also responsible for bringing BAIR, the Better Air Bear to Ocee for Fall and Spring festivals and worked to ensure support for the principal’s Anti-idling Proclamation to protect “little lungs at work.” Monica has also added her own twist to the school’s morning announcements, Otter Talk, named after their school’s mascot, where she worked with the students to announce smog alerts and environmental facts.
